| Abstract Scope |
In this study, pure and CeO2-doped hydroxyapatite (HA) coatings were produced on AZ91D magnesium alloy by hydrothermal method. CeO₂ was incorporated at 1, 5, and 10 wt.% to modify the coating morphology and surface characteristics. AZ91D substrates were polished, ultrasonically cleaned, and coated using calcium- and phosphate-based precursor solutions. After CeO2 addition, the suspension was homogenized by magnetic stirring, ultrasonic bath treatment, and probe sonication for 30 min each. Hydrothermal coating was carried out at 180 °C for 3 h. The coatings were characterized by FT-IR, SEM, EDS, and surface roughness measurements. Results showed successful formation of pure and CeO2-doped HA layers on AZ91D. The coatings exhibited approximately 12 µm surface roughness and elemental compositions close to stoichiometric HA. CeO2-doped HA coatings are promising bioactive surface layers for biodegradable magnesium-based orthopedic and bone-tissue engineering implants. |
