| Abstract Scope |
INALUM is the first aluminium smelter in Indonesia and currently operates three potlines. In early 2023, Potline 1 experienced a significant increase in sidewall force cooling utilization, reaching 429 active cooling points and requiring approximately 4.4 compressor units with a total airflow consumption of 20,174 m³/hr. Excessive force cooling utilization reduced compressed air availability for metal tapping operations, resulting in tapping delays, increased metal inventory, and reduced pot stability.
To address these challenges, a comprehensive operational strategy was implemented. These include monitoring the cooling stop program, cut out the pots with high usage of force cooling, implementing preventive actions to avoid pot overheating, and strictly controlling pot parameters. The strategy aimed not only to reduce force cooling utilization but also to improve overall thermal stability. The results demonstrated a substantial reduction in active sidewall force cooling points from 429 points in January 2023 to below 30 points by April 2026. |
