Abstract Scope |
The aerospace industry demands the development of new alloys that can withstand harsh conditions, perform at extreme temperatures, and offer ease of manufacturing with Additive Manufacturing. For this study, five fully heat-treated feature build plates were fabricated utilizing GRX-810. This oxide-dispersion-strengthened NiCoCr based alloy leverages LPBF processing to disperse nanoscale Y2O3 particles through its microstructure. The studied elements obtained from the build plate were thin walls with different thicknesses ranging from 0.1mm to 2.0 mm and walls built at angles from vertical to 45 degrees. This study evaluates findings on the microstructure of thin sections and the interaction between bulk (thicker) areas where more material is solidified during the printing process. Complementary microhardness and tensile testing provide valuable insight into the novel alloy’s mechanical performance. This work aims to advance an understanding of GRX-810’s mechanical performance and its application in demanding conditions. |
