| Abstract Scope |
Powder-based advanced manufacturing techniques often require some post-processing of the green part to densify the component and improve the strength and toughness of the material. These post-processing techniques include sintering, debinding or pyrolysis of fillers, and infiltration with inert or reactive fillers. These post processing steps can alter the part geometry and residual stress, potentially leading to unacceptable deformation or cracking, and are critical in achieving the targeted final material properties. This talk describes a simulation tool called PUMA for modeling powder processing and predicting the final geometry, residual stress, and material properties of the component. PUMA can simulate both individual processing steps and complete post-processing pipelines, chaining several unit operations together. The tool provides industry a predictive model for optimizing powder postprocessing, providing a framework for determining the best set of postprocessing parameters to minimize defects in the final component and achieve the best material properties. |
