| Abstract Scope |
For copper scrap recycling, SMS group has developed a new generation of tilting refining furnaces, enabling the production of anode copper, fire-refined, high-conductivity copper, or even copper granules for copper foil manufacturing. They are designed for the re-melting of copper scrap in form of bales, loose scrap, or fines. A central part of the refining furnace is the SMS high-pressure refining system, which shows optimal refining results, also relating to the processing of the total amount of organic and inorganic impurities, which can be >10% of the total charge weight. For this purpose, each TRF unit consists of a downstream post-combustion chamber with an integrated drop out chamber where the unburned furnace process gases are optimally post-combusted and further treated. This paper presents which off-gas emission standards face a particular challenge in the copper scrap recycling process and how the corresponding TRF solution approaches in the off-gas post-combustion are designed. |
