| Abstract Scope |
Our research focuses on materials for energy applications, with a particular emphasis on the role of ion beams in modifying material properties or generating extreme irradiation conditions for fundamental studies in chemistry and solid-state physics. A relevant application of ion beams is the simulation of radiation effects in materials that could be placed in severe radiation environments (fission and fusion systems). Such experiments rely on the ability to use ions of varying masses in a large energy range, thus covering a wide range of stopping power. They enable, for example, the simulation of radiation effects from uranium fission using swift heavy ions, or the decay of actinides using low-energy heavy ions and alpha particles, or even the simulation of light gas injection into reactors. These experimental activities benefit from unique equipment, such as the ion beam MOSAIC facility with in situ microstructural characterization. A selection of results will be presented. |
