| Abstract Scope |
The minor addition of yttrium (Y) has been used to curtail the detrimental effect of oxygen in the manufacture of Zr-based BMGs. Here, we report our investigated the effect of Y with different Y/O ratios on GFA, mechanical properties and microstructure of Zr based BMG with oxygen content ranging upto 2000 wt. ppm. It is found that the optimum Y/O ratio on improving GFA and mechanical properties is located at 2:3. The Y plays the role of oxygen-scavenging and alloying before and after the Y/O ratio of 2:3. The scavenging effect of Y is the main reason for the increase of GFA and plasticity. The analysis of the microstructure indicates that the effect of Y on the GFA and mechanical properties is closely related to the evolution of the amount of imperfect ordered packing (IOP) atomic clusters. Moreover, the amount of IOP clusters exhibits a negative correlation with compressive plasticity. |
