| Abstract Scope |
Stress corrosion cracking (SCC) is an environmental degradation mechanism of significant consequence for myriad applications given the presence of a stress state, a corrosive environment, and a susceptible material. Active load autoclave testing of SCC controls the load to maintain a constant stress intensity factor (K) despite crack advance. Previous work utilized a fast Fourier transform (FFT) method, with its inherent periodic boundary conditions, for simulating crack growth in response to a stress field imposed by cold rolling. The current work builds upon recent advances of the FFT method to relax the imposed periodic boundary conditions such that SCC is simulated in response to an imposed K. The role of residual stress and applied K on SCC growth rates will be explored and discussed. |
