Abstract Scope |
As China’s pioneer in developing ultra-large aluminum reduction cell technology, SAMI initiated the R&D of 600kA Reduction Cell(SY600) project in 2007. The SY600 team pioneered China’s first multi-physics coupled simulation model for ultra-large aluminum reduction cells. Focusing on improving magnetohydrodynamic(MHD) stability, optimizing energy efficiency, and extending the healthy lifespan, SAMI proposed and refined groundbreaking concepts including the New Conceptual and Networked Self-equalizing Busbar and New Conceptual Cathode design, which underwent three phases: Theoretical R&D (2007-2011), Pilot-scale verification (2012-2013) and Engineering application and iteration (2014 to date). These innovations established a comprehensive SY600 technological system, enabling China’s earliest industrial implementation of 600kA reduction cell and achieving industry-leading potline technical-economic indicators. As of now, SAMI has designed and commissioned over seven SY600 potlines, with more than ten additional potlines currently under design. This paper systematically analyzes the technical characteristics, industrial performance, and future trajectories of the representative SY600 technology. |
