Abstract Scope |
The accuracy of forming and crash simulations depends on the quality of the material cards used, which in turn rely on the tests employed to generate the underlying constitutive data. Over the past two decades, the automotive industry has increasingly adopted digital image correlation (DIC) for material characterization testing, although formal test standards are still evolving. This presentation will outline current initiatives within the automotive and steel industries to a) standardize DIC test procedures for steel characterization, b) develop a comprehensive database of material cards to support modeling of steel formability and crash performance, and c) establish a foundation for applying machine learning in constitutive modeling, forming simulations, and performance prediction. |
