| Abstract Scope |
The use of biomaterials like leaves in packaging food has been a traditional practice in most parts of India. However, plastics have replaced these and became the most convenient packaging materials in the recent times. The rural and tribal communities still pack food biomaterials. The most common packaging biomaterial is the banana leaves and almond leaves which are also considered to provide nutritive value to to the food packed in it. The leaves identified for packing food is usually big in size and available locally for the purpose. There are many kinds of leaves and other biomaterial used for packaging food in different regions and studies have been conducted on the methodology of packing. The present study is on the characterization of different types of biomaterial used and the sustainability of the same in protection of the food material and disposal as a biodegradable material to contribute to the circularity. |
