| Abstract Scope |
It is common practice to implement a booster section in a smelter in order to test creeping the amperage in prototypes in limited test section instead of testing creeping the amperage in a full potline.
To do so, it is required to bring extra current to the potline at a specific location between two cells and to correct back that extra current pass the boosted test sections. This means that extra busbars must be added around that boosted test section which generates extra magnetic field components in their surroundings. Those extra magnetic field components are different from cell to cell inside and outside the boosted test section generating unique cell stability conditions for each cell affected.
This paper presents the cell stability study of many cells in the surroundings of a booster section performed using the MHD-Valdis cell stability code. |
