Natural fiber-reinforced polymer composites have attracted increasing interest for acoustic applications due to their low density, renewable origin, and favorable damping characteristics. This study investigates the sound absorption behavior of epoxy composites reinforced with 50 vol.% unidirectional curauá fibers. Composite laminates with different thicknesses were manufactured and characterized under normal incidence using an impedance tube. The experimental results were interpreted through the Transfer Matrix Method (TMM), allowing the acoustic response of the laminate to be correlated with its structural characteristics. The results indicated that sound absorption depends strongly on specimen thickness and frequency, with improved performance observed over selected frequency ranges. The theoretical predictions showed satisfactory agreement with the experimental measurements, demonstrating the applicability of the proposed approach for describing the acoustic behavior of structural natural fiber composites. These findings highlight the potential of epoxy/curauá laminates as lightweight and sustainable materials for passive noise control engineering applications. |
