| Abstract Scope |
The challenges associated with the exploitation of conventional non-renewable energy resources necessitated the global transition towards renewable alternatives. Thus, alkali metals including lithium, with high capacitance and potential properties, has emerged a significant material in renewable energy technologies. Hence, this study investigates the hydrometallurgical processing of amblygonite mineral for the recovery of lithium via thermal salt roasting and aqueous leaching techniques. Parameters such as amblygonite : salt ratio, roasting temperature, and roasting time were investigated for necessary optimization of the extraction conditions. Result yielded >90% lithium recovery under optimized conditions of 700 °C, 90 min, 1:3 ore/salt ratio. Through XRD characterization, transformation occurred from the initial crystalline phase of the raw ore to a highly amorphous phase of 98.7% purity, suggesting the preferential leaching of lithium. The combination of precipitation and carbonation processes produced a high-grade industrial lithium compound for use as energy materials. |
