| Abstract Scope |
In this talk, I will present an overview over dislocation dynamics in metals. The mobility of dislocations is an important factor in understanding material strength. Dislocations experience a drag due to their interaction with the crystal structure, the dominating contribution at high stress and temperature being the scattering off phonons due to phonon wind. Indeed, our focus in this presentation is on the high deformation rate (i.e. overdriven shock) regime. Based on recently gained insights from dislocation theory, I will motivate improvements to material strength models such as the PTW model. |
