| Abstract Scope |
In this study, an experimental system was built to determine the heat transfer coefficient, h, in underwater wet flux-cored arc welding. A 15 × 10 cm ASTM A36 steel plate with a thickness of 0.95 cm was placed at the bottom of the water tank. The plate was instrumented with type-K thermocouples placed in the heat-affected zone, directly below the weld bead, and connected to a data acquisition system to measure the thermal history during welding. By solving the inverse heat conduction problem, it was possible to estimate the heat transfer coefficients, reaching values of ~5000 W⋅m-2K-1 and high heat extraction rates of ~1 ×107 W⋅m-2. |
