| Abstract Scope |
Additively manufactured 718 is a high-performance aerospace superalloy with the ability to retain high strength at elevated temperatures. Unlike many superalloys, which are strengthened primarily by ordered L12 γ' precipitates, 718 derives its dominant strengthening from coherent D022 γ'' precipitates. This work develops a multiscale crystal plasticity model for nickel-based superalloys incorporating the effects of intragranular γ' strengthening and γ'' resistance mechanism. The model incorporates precipitate characteristics through functional forms of crystal plasticity parameters in terms of the γ' - γ'' morphologies . Experimental 718 samples are fabricated by laser powder bed fusion and subjected to multiple post-processing conditions. The microstructure is characterized at the grain and sub-grain scales and used as input to the multiscale crystal plasticity simulations. The model is calibrated and validated against monotonic tensile tests and captures the influence of variations in intragranular precipitate characteristics on the mechanical response. |
