| Abstract Scope |
Composite materials combine distinct constituents to achieve superior properties compared with each component alone. Within this class, polymer matrix composites (PMCs) are prominent, comprising a polymeric matrix and a reinforcing phase. Epoxy resin is among the most widely used thermosetting matrices due to its high mechanical strength, strong adhesion, low curing shrinkage, and excellent chemical resistance. However, its predominantly petrochemical origin and limited recyclability have prompted the search for more sustainable alternatives. Incorporating natural fibers into epoxy matrices offers a promising route to reduce environmental impact while retaining desirable performance. Açaí fiber, an abundant agro‑industrial residue from the Amazon region, has attracted growing interest as a renewable, biodegradable, and low‑cost reinforcement. Its valorization adds value to agricultural waste and supports sustainability. This study aims to evaluate the mechanical strength of epoxy matrix composites reinforced with açaí fiber, and to investigate their potential for application as sustainable composite materials in engineering. |
