Abstract Scope |
Bioinspired materials offer the opportunity to address societal needs with nature-approved solutions. In particular, the use of microstructures found throughout natural materials (e.g., Biological Structural Design Elements) in synthetic and synthetic-natural composites allows for advanced materials with enhanced physical properties. In this presentation, bioinspired designs will be discussed that stem from both the versatile advanced manufacturing process of freeze casting and naturally-enabled materials based in filamentous fungi. In particular applications in biomaterials and sustainable materials will be discussed. |
