Abstract Scope |
The gyroid is one of the proven lattice structures for additive manufacturing (AM), as it possesses superior strength-to-weight ratio and is amenable for AM. However, the gyroid is not designed for specific applications, and its optimal thickness must be determined by the user prior to manufacturing. Topology optimization (TO) has been used to identify the optimal material distribution under specified boundary conditions and constraints using the finite element method. However, TO cannot guarantee periodic boundary conditions between unit cells without connectivity information, which limits its suitability for designing AM lattice structures. This research aims to develop an optimized gyroid-like structure using multi-objective topology optimization. The topology optimization is conducted under gyroid-like boundary conditions to ensure periodic boundaries while balancing both thermal and mechanical performance objectives. |
