Abstract Scope |
Rare earth oxychlorides (REOCl) are a unique class of two-dimensional (2D) layered materials exhibiting notable dielectric, luminescent, spintronic, and catalytic properties. Scalable synthesis of 2D REOCl heterostructures is critical for exploring their intrinsic characteristics and enabling advanced device applications. Herein, we report a molten salt-assisted chemical vapor deposition method for synthesizing high-quality REOCl (LaOCl, NdOCl, ErOCl, and YbOCl) single crystals, followed by their delamination into 2D flakes using a solvent-assisted chemical intercalation method. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and atomic force microscopy (AFM) confirmed the formation of individual REOCl flakes, while selected area electron diffraction (SAED) and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM) verified the presence of high-quality ultra-thin REOCl crystals. This work not only lays the foundation for controlled growth of REOCl phases but also their exfoliation into 2D crystals. We believe that 2D REOCl materials, with their unique dielectric and luminescent properties, will advance future research in 2D electronics. |
