| Abstract Scope |
The field of crystal plasticity is often focused on predicting polycrystalline behaviors from single crystal calibration data. However, the variability of this single crystal data is largely unknown. Many studies present results from single crystal experiments without including any variability information. As a result, the variability of stress-strain curves, local strain fields, and grain rotations is largely undocumented. In this work, we analyzed the stress-strain curves and full-field deformation behavior of single crystal pure nickel tension dogbone samples. While some behaviors are consistent for a given crystallographic orientation, there are notable differences as well. These differences should be considered when reporting and analyzing data from single crystal experiments as they may be a source of crystal plasticity model error. We investigate and quantify these differences with an experimental and modeling viewpoint. SNL is managed and operated by NTESS under DOE NNSA contract DE-NA0003525 |
