| Abstract Scope |
Scale-up electrodeposition experiments for Ti-Al alloy production were conducted in a 600 mL cell with a titanium anode and a copper cathode under a vacuum atmosphere. The temperature and applied potential were set to 110°C and 3.5 V, respectively, for a duration of 4 hours. The electrolyte consisted of a 2:1 molar ratio of aluminum chloride (AlCl3) and 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride (BMIC). The cathode current density was monitored as a function of time throughout the electrodeposition process. The influence of electrode distance (1.0, 1.6, and 2.2 cm) and stirring speed (ranging from 0 to 240 rpm) on the deposition process was evaluated. Results indicated that the average cathode current density decreased with increasing electrode distance, while it increased with higher stirring speeds. Presence of 40 atom% Ti in the Ti-Al deposition was observed at an electrode distance of 2.2 cm and a stirring speed of 120 rpm. |
