Abstract Scope |
Two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) have garnered significant interest in recent years due to their interesting properties at monolayer as well as homo- and heterostructures with different twist angles. Therefore, there is a demand for synthesis and processing methods that allow the growth of 2D crystals with controlled size, thickness, defect densities, and various heterostructures. In this talk, I will discuss some of the laser-based synthesis techniques we have developed to control the growth of single-crystalline 2D flakes as well as large-scale polycrystalline 2D films for wafer-scale electronics. I will report the synthesis of high-quality single-crystalline monolayers using the laser-assisted vapor-phase growth method directly from stoichiometric powders. I will also highlight our condensed-phase growth approach, which is compatible with direct laser writing, as well as conventional lithography and device integration technologies. The crystal structures, quality, and device performance will be discussed and compared with those obtained from standard growth methods. |
