Abstract Scope |
When there are discrepancies in experimental datasets as related to phase boundaries and diffusion coefficients, judgement often needs to be made as to which datasets are more reliable. This talk will discuss various useful suggestions that can help make sound judgement on the reliability of experimental data. Phase transformation kinetics dictates the amount of shift (undercooling or superheating) of the measured temperatures away from the true equilibrium values during phase diagram determination. During isothermal measurements, insufficient annealing time or slow diffusion rates often lead to unreliable values. Some effective ways to reliably assess experimental diffusion coefficients will be shown. Effective use of computed data and machine-learning data is also very helpful. Several representative cases will be given to illustrate the challenges and solutions. |
