| Abstract Scope |
The Christian Doppler Laboratory for Digital Material Design Guidelines for Mitigation of Alloy Embrittlement addresses one of the key challenges in materials engineering: understanding, predicting, and preventing embrittlement in metallic alloys. The laboratory combines advanced computational materials science, multiscale modeling, artificial intelligence, and high-resolution experimental characterization to establish a comprehensive framework linking atomistic embrittlement mechanisms to macroscopic mechanical performance. Particular emphasis is placed on steels and Ni-based alloys, where complex embrittlement phenomena act across multiple length and time scales, reducing ductility and damage tolerance. By developing predictive digital tools and fundamental knowledge of embrittlement mechanisms, the laboratory aims to accelerate the design of reliable, sustainable, and high-performance structural materials. The outcomes will support the optimization of existing alloys and enable faster development of next-generation materials for energy, transportation, and other industrial applications. |
