| Abstract Scope |
In recent decades, the development of waste-reinforced composites has increased significantly, aiming not only to produce more affordable materials with improved mechanical properties, but also, and primarily, to reduce the consumption of non-renewable resources while lowering costs associated with waste disposal. This study investigates the potential use of broom sorghum stalks as reinforcement in two configurations (whole and longitudinally split) within an epoxy matrix, with volume fractions ranging from 40% to 70%, where the produced composites were subjected to tensile testing and the results compared between configurations. The composites with 70% reinforcement exhibited superior mechanical performance, reaching 17.91 MPa for whole stalks and 17.58 MPa for longitudinally split reinforcement. |
