| Abstract Scope |
The formation of abnormal microstructures in the central region of ultra-thick slabs could be inherited by the rolled sheet, resulting in banded structures that severely deteriorate the final mechanical properties. The abnormal microstructure formation mechanism in the center of microalloyed steel ultra-thick slab were investigated in this paper. The results showed that the abnormal microstructure bainite clusters appeared in the center of the microalloyed steel ultra-thick slab, which were caused by severe enrichment of C, Mn and Cr elements with microsegregation index of 4.68, 2.71 and 4.21, respectively. The enrichment of C, Mn and Cr elements promotes the transformation of undercooled austenite to bainite at a lower cooling rate of 0.42°C/s in the center of the thick slab based on the TTT curves and experimental results. |
