| Abstract Scope |
Nickel-zinc (Ni-Zn) ferrite is a key soft magnetic material for high-frequency applications, yet its low saturation magnetization limits the achievable power density in high-power applications. To raise flux density without compromising high-frequency loss, this study explores Ni-Zn ferrite nanocomposites containing high-saturation ferromagnetic transition-metal nanoparticles embedded in the ferrite matrix. These particles improve saturation magnetization but must stay sufficiently small to avoid catastrophic eddy-current loss. Highly dispersed nanoparticles are generated by partially reducing non-stoichiometric Ni-Zn ferrites in hydrogen or self-assembled during sintering in a low oxygen atmosphere. The presentation will discuss recent investigations that explore variations in complex compositions and the specific dimension requirements of the produced secondary phase, through carefully engineered processing and thermal treatments in the presence of a reducing environment. Ultimately, the magnetic properties are processed by physical magnetization and permeability models to explain the effects induced by metal particles. |
