| Abstract Scope |
Thermo-mechanical deformation physics of single and polycrystalline metallic materials will be the focus of this talk. Large deformation and thermodynamically consistent thermo-mechanical single crystal theories for both FCC and BCC materials will be presented. Inherent within these physical theories will be attribution of both mechanics and thermodynamics of deformation processes along with energy transport. Experimental results for strain rates over six orders of magnitude and varying initial temperatures will be presented for both FCC and BCC materials. These results include temperature change with deformation. Simulations of all single crystal and polycrystal experiments will be compared with the experimental results to demonstrate validity of the physical hypotheses inherent in the thermo-mechanical theories. Physical insights and limitations in our current understanding will also be presented and discussed. |
