Mg–Li alloys are ultra-lightweight materials with excellent specific strength and electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding properties, making them promising candidates for electronic and aerospace applications. However, the effects of rare earth (RE) addition on Mg–Li–Zn alloys have not been fully understood. In this study, Mg–Li–Zn alloys with varying RE contents were fabricated and extruded. Their microstructures and phase characteristics were analyzed using FE-SEM, EDS, and XRD, and tensile tests were conducted to evaluate mechanical properties. The RE-free alloy exhibited a yield strength of 201.79 MPa and an elongation of 26.03%, whereas the RE-containing alloy showed a lower yield strength of 179.03 MPa and a higher elongation of 30.58%. This behavior was attributed to a decrease in the α-Mg phase fraction and an increase in the β-Li phase fraction with RE addition. These findings provide insights into the strength–ductility trade-off in Mg–Li–Zn–RE alloy systems. |
