Abstract Scope |
Medical implants are used to treat, prevent, and manage a variety of conditions across a diverse patient population by delivering drugs, replacing joints, or encouraging healing. In long-acting drug delivery systems (LADDS), some of the current technologies have limitations that prevent the precise, time-varying drug release profiles required for drugs such as biologics. This research aims to address these limitations by utilizing the unique features of stereolithography combined with phase separation to create a drug delivery implant with varying release profiles for a broader range of medical applications. Various custom resin compositions were tested to determine the diffusion of these printed porous membranes, which will later influence the design of the implant body. Recommendations are provided for printing porous polymers, along with a discussion on future steps in creating this implant. |
