| Abstract Scope |
The accumulation of multiple fission products in molten salts can complicate elemental quantification through matrix effects, spectral overlap, and plasma variability. Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy enables rapid, direct analysis of molten-salt surfaces with minimal sample preparation. This study assesses Sr quantification in molten NaCl–KCl containing coexisting fission-product chlorides. Sr is selected as the target analyte, while the identities and concentrations of additional elements will be determined from a representative burnup inventory to reproduce a relevant multielement composition. Spectra will be acquired from the free surface under argon using the Sr II 407.77 nm and Sr I 460.73 nm lines. Calibration models developed from Sr-only and burnup-informed multielement samples will be compared in sensitivity, prediction bias, precision, and detection limits. Multivariate analysis will be examined to address spectral interference and plasma variation, while laser-induced acoustic signals will identify measurements affected by surface and focal-position fluctuations. |
