| Abstract Scope |
AA6XXX aluminum alloys are widely used in transportation and aerospace applications because of their favorable strength-to-weight ratio and heat-treatable properties. This work applies CALPHAD-based simulations using Pandat software and the PanAl database to optimize the composition and processing conditions of extrudable 6XXX alloys. High-throughput calculations are first performed to evaluate how alloying element variations influence inter-dendritic phase formation, solidus and liquidus temperatures, and the balance between strength, formability, and corrosion resistance. A representative alloy composition is then simulated through casting, homogenization, hot-working, and aging stages to assess the effects of cooling rate, temperature, strain rate, and aging schedule on microstructure evolution and mechanical properties. Simulated flow curves and artificial aging responses show good agreement with experimental data. The results demonstrate that CALPHAD tools can effectively guide virtual experiments for alloy design and processing optimization. |
