Abstract Scope |
This paper presents the importance of standardizing the thermal insulation gap (backup) in refractory launder systems for aluminum foundries. The standardization of this dimensional parameter offers significant benefits, including objective comparative evaluation between different insulating materials, precise quantification of operational energy costs through stored heat and dissipated heat parameters, and practicality for customers to measure thermal performance results. The proposal, developed as a natural extension of the previously proposed LAlum standard, allows customers to require that all suppliers operate within uniform dimensional parameters, eliminating significant discrepancies in budget proposals and establishing a uniform technical basis for performance and cost comparison. |
