| Abstract Scope |
The cold spray process has been shown to produce high quality coatings for repairs and surface modifications for many years using Helium, Nitrogen, and even Air to accelerate the powders to high impact velocity. Much work has also been done to validate the use of cold sprayed materials for "structural" and "critical" applications for repairs, using primarily helium, but also some high nitrogen conditions. Much of the recent developments in high performance cold spray materials is going beyond repair and coatings and into additive manufacturing with the process, the advantages of which include reduced residual stresses and distortion as well as higher build rates. One advantage of CSAM is the ability to perform partial or full heat treatments as well to enhance the properties of the materials deposited. |
