Abstract Scope |
This study examines the use of additively manufactured components in a novel type of electric motor called Transverse Homopolar AC Machines. The motor enables a more robust system with higher accessibility for maintenance, reduced magnetic material requirements, and increased efficiency, power, and torque density. To improve the design and fabrication of the motor, we present a few case studies of using AM components to (1) reduce the number of housing parts for easy assembly, and (2) fabricate critical magnetic components using laser-based additive manufacturing processes. |
