| Abstract Scope |
This study evaluates sustainable epoxy and tauari wood waste composite panels nanostructured with biomass-derived graphene oxide (GO) for architectural shielding applications. Flexural behavior (ASTM D790) and ballistic energy absorption (NIJ 0101.04) under 9 mm projectile impacts were analyzed using GO concentrations of 0.1%, 0.2%, and 0.5%. Results demonstrated that low GO fractions optimize performance. The 0.2% GO sample achieved the highest flexural strength (35 MPa), while the 0.1% GO formulation exhibited the maximum stiffness (1.0 GPa) and highest kinetic energy absorption (245.11 J). Conversely, adding 0.5% GO increased structural disorder and agglomeration, reducing overall efficiency. Statistical analysis (ANOVA) confirmed significant variations in static properties but rapid matrix saturation under dynamic impact. Formulations with 0.1% to 0.2% GO represent high-performance, lightweight, and eco-friendly alternatives for passive protection systems. |
