| Abstract Scope |
Our modified dynamic in situ synchrotron Laue X-ray diffraction technique (with a beam size significantly larger than the grain size) enables the study of the dynamic behaviors of ~100 individual grains in a bulk sample, overcoming the challenge posed by the time-consuming sample rotation and raster scanning. Using a 460×550 µm2 beam on a 360 µm thickness sample, Laue diffraction patterns were collected continuously during the 1 h 500 °C isothermal heating on a Mg-1.9Zn with an initial grain size of 20 µm. An energy scan from 5 keV to 70 keV was performed using the EIGER2 R detector at 400 °C (after the isothermal stage). This resolves the energy of each Laue reflection to within ±2 keV, which helps address the challenge of indexing ~100 grains from a single frame. In this study, we will track and quantify the grain behaviors of ~100 individual grains. |
