| Abstract Scope |
Grain boundaries can exhibit multiple phases and undergo first-order phase transitions, resulting in discontinuous changes in their properties. Different grain boundary structures are separated by line defects known as grain boundary phase junctions. The talk will explore the relationship between the multiplicity of grain boundary structures and the associated line defects, their properties, and the role in the thermodynamics and kinetics of grain boundary phase transformations. This work was performed under the auspices of the U.S. Department of Energy by Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory under Contract DE-AC52-07NA27344. |
