Bio-sustainable, plant-based construction materials offer eco-friendly alternatives to traditional, carbon-heavy materials such as concrete and steel. Derived from rapidly renewable agricultural crops and residues, these materials actively sequester carbon while delivering excellent thermal, acoustic, and structural performance. This research investigates several bio-sustainable materials, focusing on applications involving local giant bamboo, natural fibers from the Amazon rainforest, leaf fibers from the Andes, and coffee waste. Driven by global sustainability demands, many of these materials are now being produced at an industrial scale for housing, acoustic insulation, and structural applications. Finally, this study outlines their key material properties, main limitations, and future perspectives. |
