Abstract Scope |
The use of synergistic pyrolysis with organic matter to promote the neutralization of bauxite residue (BR) has increased significantly. This study investigated the potential synergistic effect of BR in pyrolysis when combined with Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF) and biomass (sugarcane bagasse), in relation to gas yield. Statistical methods were used to evaluate the reproducibility of the procedure and the tested equipment. Pyrolysis of pure materials, binary, and ternary mixtures was conducted at 600°C. The results confirmed the catalytic effect of BR. The binary mixtures showed an increase of 35.97% and 46.97% in gas yield when BR was blended with biomass and RDF, respectively. The ternary mixture exhibited a 33.6% increase in gas yield. Due to the presence of metals such as iron, aluminum, and calcium, BR exhibits a catalytic effect during the pyrolysis process. The products of synergistic pyrolysis have the potential to replace fossil fuels in alumina refineries. |
