Abstract Scope |
The extraction of gold by cyanide leaching followed by carbon adsorption is widely used in the industry, where used toxic cyanide is mostly released to the tailing pond after gold recovery. This process severely pollutes the environment. While extensive research is going on to replace cyanides with environmentally benign reagents, none of them are suitable for economic use; therefore, cyanide leaching is still the main driver in the gold mining industry. The authors have proposed a sustainable process where gold will be leached using cyanide, followed by conversion of gold-cyanide complexes to gold-chloride complexes, thus facilitating cyanide for recycling to reuse in the leaching process and simultaneously adsorbing and reducing gold-chloride complexes to metallic gold using bioadsorbents. This paper will give a scientific layout and discuss this innovative process through experimental and computational data analysis. |
