| Abstract Scope |
Grain-oriented electrical steel exhibits outstanding magnetic properties owing to the development of a sharp {110}<001> Goss texture, which is produced by the selective abnormal growth of Goss-oriented grains during final annealing. Inhibitors such as AlN and MnS play a crucial role in this process through grain-boundary pinning. Therefore, understanding the kinetics of inhibitor coarsening and dissolution is essential for optimizing the processing conditions of electrical steel. Herein, we use phase-field modeling to examine how precipitate decomposition and precipitate–grain boundary interactions affect Goss grain growth in Fe–3 wt.% Si steel. Fe–3 wt.% Si specimens were annealed at 1100 °C for 10, 30, 60, and 120 min, followed by microstructural characterization using scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. Through a combined analysis of simulation, microstructural, and magnetic characterization results, this study seeks to elucidate the role of precipitate evolution in controlling abnormal Goss grain growth. |
