Abstract Scope This work presents the development of a linearly reciprocating tribometer for in situ neutron reflectometry to probe the surface structure of soft materials during compression and shear. We present the results of our recent investigations using the Liquids Reflectometer at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory Spallation Neutron Source.
