| Abstract Scope |
Spherical powder production methods are often constrained by the limitations of their heat sources, restricting the range of processable materials. Gas atomization techniques rely on induction heating and are best suited for low-melting-point, non-refractory materials. Plasma-based methods offer limited control over heat input, making processing materials containing volatile elements challenging. A novel approach combining laser melting with ultrasonic atomization is proposed. Laser energy allows for precise thermal control, enabling the processing of refractory and low-melting-point materials, as well as functional materials that frequently contain volatile elements. Case studies will be presented showcasing how laser melting affects the properties of powders atomized by ultrasonic atomization and precise heat input control for functional and refractory materials. |
