| Abstract Scope |
High-performance coatings with excellent wear and corrosion resistance are critical for engineering components exposed to aggressive environments. Ni-P coatings are widely recognized for their high hardness, good corrosion resistance, and compatibility with ceramic reinforcements. However, direct-current electrodeposition can lead to concentration polarization, nonuniform particle incorporation, surface nodules, and coating defects. Here, we report our initial results on the development of Ni-P-NbC nanocomposite coatings using pulse-based electrodeposition to improve coating uniformity, mechanical performance, and corrosion resistance.
The coatings were characterized using scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, surface profilometry, microhardness testing, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and potentiodynamic polarization in a 3.5 wt.% NaCl environment. These initial results demonstrate that pulse-based electrodeposition can significantly enhance coating quality and performance. |
