| Abstract Scope |
Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) enables direct characterization of structural and compositional evolution from the atomic to nanoscale. Recent advances in in situ and cryogenic TEM allow visualization of dynamic processes in energy materials under realistic conditions. In this talk, we highlight the development of advanced in situ TEM techniques to probe solid-state reactions in lithium-ion and beyond-lithium batteries. By directly observing phase transformations during synthesis and electrochemical cycling, we uncover the origins of distinct reaction pathways and kinetics. These insights provide fundamental mechanistic understanding that informs the rational design of next-generation energy storage materials. |
