Abstract Scope |
The use of metallic coatings for corrosion protection constitutes one of the methods to extend the lifespan of steel structures and components exposed to moisture and aggressive environments near coastal areas. Zn-Ni metallic coatings are used as sacrificial coatings that offer cathodic protection on carbon steels. The electrodeposition of this alloy is of great interest, being more economically feasible than other manufacturing processes. The optimum corrosion performance of these coatings is affected by many parameters during their electrodeposition. Thus, statistical models such as a Box-Behnken Design are employed to assess the optimum deposition parameters for the obtention of highly corrosion-resistant Zn-Ni coatings. Calibration of the statistical model and experimental validation are performed to explain the effect of several plating parameters on the coating’s physical, structural, and electrochemical properties and their behavior in brine solution. Moreover, the second-order model allows the reproducibility of the experimental conditions and obtained results. |
