Abstract Scope |
Pit 1 ore deposit from Mafweta Mine in Kasempa District of the Northwestern Province of Zambia is a rich grade copper ore (> 3 % TCu). Manganese and iron grade in the ore is more than 4 and 10 %, respectively. Mineralogical examinations via scanning electron microscopy revealed that more than 70 % of the copper is chemically combined with manganese and iron. Leach tests were conducted under different conditions such as particle size, pH, temperature, oxidation potential etc. The leachability of copper was found to be more sensitive to oxidation potential and pH. The experimental results showed a strong agreement with the Thermodynamic predictions. The novel method of controlling oxidation potential was investigated. |
