| Abstract Scope |
Copper ore deposit from Kasempa District of the Northwestern Province of Zambia is a rich grade copper ore (> 3 % TCu). Manganese and iron grade in the ore is more than 3 %. The as-received sample was characterized using scanning electron microscopy and it was revealed that copper is contained in malachite, Cu-Mn-Fe hydroxide and silicate minerals. Screen analysis showed that about 85 % of the manganese is contained in the finer material. The effect of pH and addition of a SMBS as a reductant were studied. Results showed that efficiency of copper and manganese increases with increase in SMBS addition. However, the effect of SMBS addition is more pronounced in leaching of manganese. |
